Prensky on Digital Natives

1. Digital Natives tend to be the kids who are born and raised learning with and often through technology, where as Digital Immigrants are people born before this spread of technology. They tend to be very different kinds of people when it comes to the integration of technology. They either embrace the new uproar of technological advancements and feel it is vital, and others oppose it and believe it is overwhelming the traditions they remember.
2. Personally, I've grown up with technology as more of an option and it was just being integrated into my classroom and life in general. I have a lot of knowledge in both technology and more hands on work because of how I have grown up. My very basic childhood had some technology available to me, however I feel like technology has become over-used and mass required as a teaching tool, which undermines the importance of hands on learning.
3. Digital Divide will also be an issue in the education system. It is arguable that technology is needed for everyday life as it is now, however people lived without it, and there are millions of things you can do online that you could learn more by visually seeing it in front of you. I believe education will continue to require use of technology, because there is already a dependence on it, however, I believe it will never fully replace creating hands on examples, no matter the subject taught.
4. This idea that learning through technology is more important in this digital age is crazy to me, he just seemed very interested in the new, especially toward education. He just didn't seem the most open.
5. He is very centered on his personal beliefs and his idea of what the future is, but traditional and manual work will always be more valuable and harder to find.
6. Technology has always been important to the classroom within my personal experience, it is necessary to use it in order to keep logs organized. However I do not believe that Kindergartner's need to learn how to use photoshop, I don't even think they should be getting an email address at the age of 5 but they do. I believe that technology has become a stimulant to children but it has also become a distraction and has slowly taken away the skills that come along with tactile work.
7. Under my choice, I would keep technology open as an option to the children. They should not be required to use technology more than they need to. I would only use it to save information and to save images of their art. Unless I was teaching a computer graphics class, I would only use technology to finalize and save their work and grades.
