Prensky on Digital Natives

1. Digital Natives tend to be the kids who are born and raised learning with and often through technology, where as Digital Immigrants are people born before this spread of technology. They tend to be very different kinds of people when it comes to the integration of technology. They either embrace the new uproar of technological advancements and feel it is vital, and others oppose it and believe it is overwhelming the traditions they remember. 2. Personally, I've grown up with technology as more of an option and it was just being integrated into my classroom and life in general. I have a lot of knowledge in both technology and more hands on work because of how I have grown up. My very basic childhood had some technology available to me, however I feel like technology has become over-used and mass required as a teaching tool, which undermines the importance of hands on learning. 3. Digital Divide will also be an issue in the education system. It is arguable that technology is ne...

Kevin Tavin

1.The first thing I learned is that it is important to understand how proportion, scale and composition play a role is the piece's importance. The second thing I took away was that you need to put yourself in an artwork to better understand why it creates the mood it does. The last fact I learned was that visuals are used dramatically in both politics itself, and to vocalize political ideas. 2. The role of an Art Educator is to discover and discuss the impacts and meaning behind visual culture. This is further explored through the establishment of context, content and form. Art Educators are meant to study how culture is established through visuals and then contextualize this. They answer the question, why are visuals important? 3. I will remember the importance of looking deep into why and for what reason an image is created. How do visuals affect culture and how does culture affect art; both are important to explore. Emotions, politics, current events, opinions, and what is w...

Adobe Illustrator Videos

In the video, "What is Illustrator?", they explained that illustrator uses vector scaling, meaning you can scale an image to size and not worry about pixels and low resolution because the vectors use math to form the shapes. Illustrator is great for use in making logos. "How to set up a new document" was about using Adobe Illustrator on your phone and other devices, and how to begin a new document. It gave examples of where to find orientation, or image size. In,  "Working with Art Boards", they demonstrate how you can work on separate Art Boards by working next to other projects, by placing them side to side, in order to work back and forth. It also showed you how to select an art board. In the article,"Working with Shapes", it visually demonstrates how you can create shapes by using the shape tool and moving the edges. You can use properties to change the angle, or proportion of the shape. In the video, "Using brushes", the n...

Digital Imagery

1. Digital images are everywhere. Any given website shows you ads on the side bars, which is the main exposure of digital images. They can give you a lot of information, but they don't always show you the whole truth. Images are used on YouTube in the form of thumbnails, which tend to represent the most dramatic or on topic image of what the video is about. The other important thing to keep in mind is that these images are more likely than not edited, heavily. Which also interferes with how they represent the original idea. 2. In my personal life, digital images don't effect me that much personally. The two main media sources I view are YouTube and Instagram, however I personally don't view either that often. I do understand that images on Instagram show a slim image of reality, that almost every image is a replication that is edited to look better. The other part of this is that digital images can crop reality, that you only see the positives that people want to show you...

Photoshop Videos

1. In the first video, “Take a tour of the Photoshop work area,” the narrator explains that all of the tools are displayed on the left hand side and that the bar on the top edge of the screen demonstrates your options for each tool. This bar changes when you select a new tool to use. For the paintbrush tool it will show you the option to change the stroke shape, size, and opacity; but by selecting a new tool you change your options available. 2. In the article “About Photoshop Layers” the topic of how and why to use layers in photoshop is discussed. Layers are a way to place images above or below other images in the same photoshop file by putting them on layers. This way you can show one object in front of another. It can also be used to separate the effects of different tools. Say you only want to make the background of a picture brighter, you can separate the foreground and background and only edit the background layer. You can also link layers together, which enables them to be dr...
